    Hi Jim. Thanks so much for your educational video series! I just bought a Snapper Model # 28086S that is in pretty good shape and am working my way through it. It came with the two bagger collection system because of your liking that system so much. I use grass clippings and leaves on our 4,500 square ft of vegetable gardening beds and was using a push Toro Super Recycler. My Snapper collects way faster! A question: Do we need to be concerned with brass gears and 90 wt. lube compatibility? I know Troy Bilt suggest GL-4 I believe it is as GL-5 is not so good for the brass. Thanks again, Dan

    Hahahah oh my - poor Michael J! Jim, I have to tell you that your Y.T. channel is ABSOLUTELY and AMAZINGLY helpful and enjoyable to the point of being addictive to a guy like me. I do all my own repairs on everything, and truly appreciate your approach and knowledge in what you do. I was given an old Snapper 3314 that was stored for 11 years under a tarp - it's badly in need of a complete restoration. A few weeks ago, and found the manuals online (the parts, operating, and B&S motor manual), which are helpful. But your videos have really helped me understand the way the thing works, which is vital information for a guy like me, since I modify everything I own. I'm learning all I can before I restore the thing - it's way too hot here in Georgia right now, and I don't have room for it in my garage, so it'll have to wait until October or so. Meanwhile I'm inspecting it and buying the parts that I can see are needed. Anyway, don't let the turkeys get you down - if Michael J can't understand what you're doing, then there's no hope for him.

    Hey Jim love your videos very informative, so I have this issue you mentioned in a comment below my snapper will only start if I remove the black and red combo wires at the magneto block with the ground wire in place, what would that mean is that part of safety switches?

    • @jimjackson9381
      @jimjackson9381 3 дня назад

      There is typically three wires hooked to the magneto shorting block. One wire goes into the engine and hooks to the coil. One wire comes out of the tube from the ignition switch. The third wire comes from the area where the starting solenoid is that is the wire that comes from the safety system, if you remove just that wire and everything works then you have an issue somewhere in your safety system it’s either switches or it even could be a bad wire or it’s your interlock modem.

    • @krueger7124

      @@jimjackson9381 yeah cause I had it literally running for a few hours once I hopped off the seat it shut down then wouldnt start again, then played around a few days later only worked when I left ground from magneto off obv didn’t like that the motor wouldn’t turn off, then just pulled that wires I mentioned which is the solenoid apparently, based on how I said it wouldn’t start again after running a few hours you know where I should look first in the safety?? Any help is much appreciated thanks again Jim

    Maybe he thinks a fix is a 1 step process, when generally, repairing something is often a multi step job and he wants the simple version that doesn't exist. So he sees your explanation as a mess because its too much for him to handle. Perhaps he just isn't very mechanically inclined or possible mild autism and gets confused. I always found your information very clear. As for people who think they are smart, its the dunning-kruger effect. Happens to us all in different areas I think. We learn a little bit about some information, and it feels like we know a lot now because we don't know what we don't know. As we learn more, we realize there is so much more to learn about that area, so our confidence drops. Eventually we become an expert and our confidence slowly comes back up to cautiously realize we do know a good deal but are weary of making a mistake and avoid making assumptions.

    Any clue on what size carbide bit I need to drill the pin out. Mine is completely FROZEN.

    • @jimjackson9381
      @jimjackson9381 4 дня назад

      Well, the original hole should be 1/4 inch and a roll pins are slightly larger to fit tight in the hole but I would try putting some penetrating oil in there and then get yourself a 1/4 inch roll pin punch. You’ll have to support the wheel on a piece of wood with a, 5/16 hole drilled into it in line the hole up where the pin is going to come out and try driving it out first typically drilling them out really makes a mess unless you have the wheel in somehow and using a drill press your drill typically is going to wander And there’s no guarantee it’s going to follow the role pin. Keep me posted on your progress and what you’re trying.

      No, some machines had steel support cables on the back of the mower deck if you look up towards the top of the cable where it goes through the rear case, there should be a bolt on the end of the cable and you can tighten the nut and it will raise the back of the deck.

    Those cupped washers that are everywhere on Snappers are called Belleville washers. They're really old school, as are the eccentric bushings on the axles. I've worked on equipment that was designed in the early 1900's and both of those were used. They work great and they're simple, once you know about them and how they work.
